Who Has That Drawing Open???

Want to know who has a drawing open? Try the WHOHAS command. Once only an Express Tools command, WHOHAS is incorporated into AutoCAD 2000, AutoCAD 2000i and AutoCAD 2002. The WHOHAS command is defined in the WHOHAS.ARX file found in the AutoCAD program files folder. The WHOHAS.ARX file must be loaded on all computers that might have drawings open that you want to track.

Installing WHOHAS

The simpliest way to insure that the WHOHAS.ARX file is loaded is to add it to the Start up Suite. The Startup Suite, a component part of the Appload command, allows you to easily specify ObjectArx (arx), AutoLisp (lsp), VBA (dvb), ObjectDBX (dbx), LispLisp Executables (vlx) and Fast-load AutoLisp format (fas) files to be automatically loaded each time you open a drawing.

Select Application Load from the Tools menu or type APPLOAD at the command line and press ENTER.

Left-click on the Contents button in the Startup Suite area.

Left-click on the Add button. Navigate to the location of your AutoCAD program files. Find the WHOHAS.ARX file located with these files and double-click on the file name. Left-click on the Close button in the Startup Suite window. Left-click on the Close button in the Application Load window.

Using Who Has

Type Whohas at the command line and press ENTER. Navigate the Select File to Query to locate the file whose ownership you want to determine. Double-click on the file name. The name of the owner, the name of the computer and the date and time the drawing was first opened is displayed in the command line.
