Video Tutorial Transcript

Welcome. I'm Cindy Dunn, President of CCAD inc. In this video I will demonstrate the updated features of DIM command, which was enhanced in AutoCAD 2016.

The DIM command has been around for a long time without any updates. By selecting various options you could create linear, diameter, radius dimensions, etc.

One of the coolest features of the updated command is you can choose the layer assigned to dimensions created with the DIM command. If the desired layer is present in the drawing, choose it from the drop down. Otherwise, type in DIMLAYER and key in the layer name. It will be created if not present in the drawing.

The updated DIM command infers the type of dimension based on your selection. Choose a line to create a linear or aligned dimension. Pick a circle to add a diameter dimension, an arc for a radius dimension. Select one line and then another to add an angular dimension. Pick two points to create a linear or aligned dimension.

If you locate a dimension on top of another dimension you have the option do nothing, move the existing dimension away, replace the existing dimension or break up the existing dimension.

Based on the object selected you can choose a different type of dimension. Add a radius dimension to a circle or diameter dimension to an arc. If you select a dimension you can add a continued or baseline dimension.
