Video Tutorial Transcript

Welcome. I'm Cindy Dunn, President of CCAD inc. In this video I will demonstrate some often overlooked options of the TRIM and EXTEND commands.

The TRIM command removes a portion and of an object based on intersecting objects while the EXTEND command lengthens an object until it meets selected objects. Most objects can be trimmed or extended.

After selecting the TRIM or EXTEND command, you can designate all of the objects in the drawing as boundaries by pressing ENTER. This is a handy feature unless your drawing contains numerous objects or intersecting objects. Another neat feature is you can switch from TRIMMING to EXTENDING and vice versa by holding the SHIFT key.

First I'll TRIM this line and then hold the shift key to EXTEND this line. You can erase an object while in the TRIM command using the ERASE option. While I can select object to be TRIMMED one at a time, I can also select several objects using a crossing or fence.

There is also an option to treat the selected boundaries as infinite by adjusting the edge setting. This is an application setting that will affect TRIM and EXTEND for all drawings.
