Managing Layer Status

layer controlLayers can be turned off and on, frozen and thawed, locked and unlocked using the Layer Control (see figure at the right).

A Layer that is Off is invisible and does not print. However, a Layer that is Off can be selected if you use the ALL method of selecting objects. Also, a Layer that is Off is included in calculations, like Zoom Extents.

A Layer that is Frozen is invisible, does not print, cannot be selected and is excluded from calculations.

A Layer that is Locked is visible, prints, but cannot be modified. However, objects on a Locked Layer can be used as Trim/Extend boundaries. Object Snaps also work with objects on Locked Layers. Objects on Locked Layers appear faded to differentiate them from those on Unlocked Layers. The percentage of Fade is controlled in the Layer panel of the Home tab or by the LAYLOCKFADECTL setting. Grips do not display on objects on a locked Layer.

Layers can also be controlled using a variety of buttons in the Layer panel of the Home tab.
