Video Tutorial Transcript

Welcome. I'm Cindy Dunn, President of CCAD inc. In this video I will demonstrate the Geometric Center Object Snap added in AutoCAD 2016.

Object Snaps are tools that help locate specific points related to an object, like endpoints, intersections and midpoints. Object Snap modes can be Running or Immediate.

A Running Object Snap is set using the Object Snap button in the Status Bar. As you move your cursor over objects while in a command requesting a point, AutoCAD will display an icon and tooltip for any Running Object Snap that applies.

An Immediate Object Snap can be activated by pressing SHIFT, right-clicking and choosing the desired Object Snap. Any active Running Object Snaps are suspended and the selected Immediate Object Snap is functional for one pick. After one pick the Running Object Snaps are reactivated.

The new Geometric Center (GCEN) Object Snap locates the geometric center of polylines and splines. This is very handy when trying to locate the center of a polyline created using the rectangle or polygon commands.

The Geometric Center may not lie within the boundary of the polyline or spline as in the case of this shape.

Thank you for watching our video on the Geometric Center Object Snap, which is new in AutoCAD 2016. Please visit these links for more AutoCAD Tutorials and our schedule of in-person and virtual AutoCAD training.
