One of the first things you notice in AutoCAD 2014 are the tabs along the top of the drawing window. These are File Tabs. Each open drawing is displayed as a File Tab allowing you to quickly switch to a different file and more.

Hover over a File Tab to use QuickView Drawing to see each layout in a drawing and activate it. You can also launch the PUBLISH or PLOT commands from QuickView Drawing.

If an asterisk appears on a File Tab the drawing has unsaved changes.

The plus symbol launches the QNEW command.

Right-clicking on a tab displays a menu with several options:

  • Create a New drawing
  • Open an existing drawing
  • Save As
  • Save All drawings
  • Close the current drawing
  • Close All drawings
  • Close all but the selected File Tab
  • Copy the file path
  • Open the file location

The Open File Location option opens the folder containing the file in Windows Explorer.
